Health is a
Foundation for Life.
Good health enables people to learn, work care for their families, and participate fully in
society. It is essential for strong communities, resilient families, and a thriving future.
Yarah Charity’s Good Health & Well-being programme supports vulnerable communities in
Sri Lanka through Free Medical Camps, blood donation initiatives emergency response
efforts, and health awareness campaigns. These efforts provide lifesaving assistance,
essential care, and health education, particularly in crises, emergencies, and underserved
areas. Our work is guided by UN SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being, which champions healthy
lives and well-being for all at all ages.
Why Good Health Matters in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka’s public health system has delivered strong outcomes, including significant
increases in life expectancy and the elimination of major infectious diseases such as
malaria, polio and neonatal tetanus. (APO) –

Yet the country continues to face challenges that affect everyday life for many families:
● a growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as heart disease
and diabetes
● ongoing pressures on public health systems due to economic limitations
● reduced access to essential medicines and preventive care in remote regions
● rising costs of healthcare and out-of-pocket spending
● impacts of natural disasters that disrupt health services and infrastructure
In this context, Good Health and Well-being isn’t just clinical care — it’s a vital lifeline that protects families, restores hope, and builds community resilience.
Our Good Health & Well-being Focus Areas
Medical Aid & Free Medical Camps
Our Medical Aid efforts bring primary and preventive health services directly to communities
that lack access to regular care.
At Free Medical Camps, beneficiaries receive:
● health check-ups and consultations.
● screening for common conditions (blood pressure, glucose, BMI).
● basic treatment and referral support.
● essential medicines and follow-up planning.
● maternal, child and elderly health assessments.
● These camps are especially crucial in rural areas, during emergencies, and where transport or costs hinder access to care.
Blood Donation & Emergency Health Support
Access to safe blood can make the difference between life and death — especially in
emergencies, trauma cases, and maternal health crises.
We coordinate Blood Donation Drives with local partners to:
● collect and supply safe blood to hospitals.
● promote voluntary blood donation culture.
● support emergency surgical and critical care needs.
● In times of disaster, our emergency health teams also provide rapid response support.
● helping save lives when every minute counts.
Disaster Recovery & Health Response
Sri Lanka is vulnerable to natural disasters — floods, landslides, cyclones, and other
emergencies that disrupt lives and overwhelm local health systems.
During disaster response, Yarah Charity:
● sets up mobile clinics and treatment tents.
● distributes medicines, first-aid supplies, and nutrition packs.
● offers psychological first aid and crisis support.
● assists with evacuation support in coordination with relief authorities.
● Our aim is to bring care to the frontlines of need — where families are displaced, cut off from regular services, or facing life-threatening conditions.
Health, Nutrition & Prevention Awareness
Good health begins with good knowledge.
Our education programmes empower communities with practical information on:
● disease prevention and hygiene.
● nutrition for children and families.
● healthy lifestyles and physical wellbeing.
● maternal and child health care.
● early detection of common conditions.
● Awareness and preventive action reduce illness, hospital visits, and long-term health costs, strengthening entire communities.
The Impact of Good Health & Well-being
Good health transforms lives:
● children stay in school and grow with strength
● families avoid catastrophic medical costs
● communities become more resilient to crises
● individuals gain dignity, empowerment and stability
Health is life. Support keeps life going.
